Tutoring at Make Your Mark in Life: Individualized support for students with special needs of any age, (pre-school - adult), including tutorial assistance for remediation in academic subjects, special reading development programs, cognitive skill development, and proven strategies to improve studying and test-taking. $50 per hour.
Educational Testing: We are able to help parents determine if educational testing is needed, and what type of educational testing is needed for their child(ren). If private testing is desired (vs. testing provided by the school system), Dr. Joe Feist has been successfully serving our families for almost 10 years.
Joseph R. Feist, Ph.D. is a licensed clinical psychologist who has maintained an office for evaluation and therapy services in Coral Gables for 33 years and has provided professional services primarily limited to assessment services in Vero Beach for 14 years. His youngest of three children began school in Miami but graduated from St. Edward’s School in Vero Beach. He and his wife are Vero Beach residents.
Dr. Feist has provided Psycho-educational Evaluation Services for individuals from pre-kindergarten to adult in order to assess learning strengths and weaknesses, determine if any Learning Disabilities are present, to assess the presence and severity of Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder and to identify emotional disturbances. Testing is used by parents and schools to obtain a fuller understanding of a child so that any needed services may be provided, and so that an appropriate educational program can be designed that best meets the student’s needs. In addition to being used by schools in the local community, testing is helpful in considering appropriate boarding school placements, and boarding schools, colleges, universities, graduate and professional schools. These schools often use the results to provide accommodations and academic support. Testing can also be used to establish the need for educational accommodations at school, when taking standardized, school administered tests such as the FCAT or Stanford Achievement Test, college entrance examinations such as the SAT and ACT, tests for professional and graduate training such as the LSAT, MCAT, GRE and GMAT, and for licensing tests such as the Bar Exam, Doctor Boards etc.
Other evaluation services are also provided. Testing for Academic Enrichment can help to determine a student’s eligibility for special programs such as the Indian River County’s Gifted Child Program. Developmental Assessment of Pre-school students can provide an independent assessment of a child’s level of developmental functioning in order to help parents determine if early intervention services are needed.
Students faced with making future career decisions often find that testing is helpful to them. In addition to providing tests of reasoning skills and academic strengths and weaknesses, other tests such as vocational interest testing or tests of normal personality functioning are also provided that are sometimes helpful in plotting a future educational course.
Please contact us for information about how to reach Dr. Feist and schedule testing.
Unlimited Resources for Special Needs: Chantai & Tom Snellgrove (residents of Indian River County!) created Parenting Special Needs (online) Magazine in 2008. It is an outstanding resource for the latest and greatest information needed to parent children with special needs. (And put the link there…)
Learning RX is a very unique (and costly) approach to tutoring for the special needs child, and only available in either Palm Beach or Melbourne at this time. The Learning RX franchises train cognitive vs. academic skills. Even if you are not able to take advantage of their tutoring services, their website and newsletters provide very terrific and insightful information; especially for students with learning disabilities and differences.

Educational Consulting: Oftentimes, as part of our tutorial assistance, our tutors and/or owner Lynda Allen, will work closely with parents to help insure their children are in the right classroom, receiving all public school services they are eligible for, and they are receiving the accommodations noted in their Academic Enrichment Plan (AEP), Individualized Education Plan (IEP) or Learning Prescription (LP).
- Mind, Body and Sport: We are lucky to have an outstanding educational consultant in our area who is able to do the "above and beyond" work that is sometimes needed for children with learning challenges. Maria-Elena Kitchell, Ed.D., is able to provide information that helps both parents and child understand their learning differences and educational needs. Then, if needed, she is able to help navigate the proper course in the school environment.
